July 5th, 2005

After almost four months off snow, I took my first turns in Mammoth, California a few weeks ago. I skied for two weeks on my own before my teammates arrived for our GS camp on the 28th. The time I spent skiing with my coach Chip was low-key, but productive. My knee hurt a little bit while I skied, but was never swollen or sore afterward. I also had a great time enjoying the Mammoth area during my down-time—watching a professional motocross, doing a lot of cycling, taking crazy yoga classes…

By the time my team’s four-day training camp began, I was back up-to-speed and able to run gates. Considering how tentative I was my very first day on snow, it was pretty remarkable to be running full-speed GS gates with complete confidence on my last day. I am skiing technically very sound, and of course, LOVING it… I will have the rest of July off before I head to Chile on August 1st for a month-long training camp. After such a positive camp in Mammoth, and the month of July to concentrate on my conditioning, I expect my knee and my skiing to be even better in Chile. I’m looking forward to it!
